en-TANGO-ed, the New Tango Museum, located in the San Telmo barrio of Buenos Aires serves as both a exhibition space and a Milonga (the tradition name for an establishment where tango is danced) for the famed dance. The building is split into two different componets | the public + the private | that are then intertwined to create a whole. The private portion of the program consists of the exhibition space; the public is the Milonga, bookstore, and cafe. There are two seperate entrances for each of the programs. For the private, you enter into a lobby space and then are filtered vertically through the building to experience both the exhibition and the surroundings of San Telmo. For the public, you enter directly into the bookstore and then are filtered up to the cafe and finally end at the Milonga. The Milonga opens onto a terrace allowing the dancers to become closer to the historic origins of tango.
